What is Thuma Mina Teaching?
Thuma Mina Teaching (TMT) is a non-profit EdTech organisation in South Africa committed to accelerating access to quality education. We transform the school curriculum (CAPS) into compact, high-quality video lessons and supplementary learning materials that are freely available on YouTube.
Our approach is particularly impactful in under-resourced communities, where our resources help bridge the educational divide by offering an inclusive and engaging learning experience that extends beyond the traditional classroom.
Teachers use our lessons in class to explain difficult concepts, introduce new topics, and reinforce learning. Learners use them for revision, self-directed study, and to strengthen their understanding of the curriculum. Teachers also benefit from our lessons for their own curriculum mastery, planning, and preparation.
In addition, we support teachers through in-person workshops and virtual webinars, onboarding them and demonstrating how to integrate our resources effectively into their teaching.

To use our resources optimally, teachers/learners need a stable internet connection, access to a device such as a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer that can play videos and download files, and in the classroom, teachers will need a data projector to project videos for learners.
Immediate access through YouTube with no setup required beyond having a device with internet access.
We provide in-person workshops for teachers to onboard them and demonstrate how to use our resources effectively in their classrooms. These sessions are also offered in a virtual format, such as webinars. In addition, teachers use our video lessons for their own curriculum mastery, as well as for lesson planning and preparation.
We provide ongoing support through a designated team that responds to YouTube comments and social media messages. We also run WhatsApp support groups where we communicate with teachers using our resources on a weekly basis. In addition, both teachers and students can reach us via email, with our contact details available on our website, YouTube channel, and social media platforms.
