What is The Life Skills Toolkit?

The Life Skills Toolkit is a prevention education programme developed by Life Skills Education Charity, a UK-based organisation with over 15 years of experience in delivering safeguarding and personal development resources. The Toolkit offers multiple programmes for years 1 to 6 and is designed to help young people make safe, confident decisions when faced with risky situations. It covers a broad range of critical topics, starting with simple things, such as household cleaners, open water and medicines, working up to topics such as online harms, sexting, smoking, alcohol, and drugs and substance misuse in Year 6. The programme is delivered through structured lessons and resources aimed at building resilience and awareness among pupils.

The Life Skills Toolkit includes age-appropriate content spanning a range of topics that build in complexity year on year. The interactive lessons promote discussion and reflection, and all of our materials are created by experienced prevention education specialists using research and best practice. The programme supports schools in meeting statutory PSHE and RSE requirements while equipping pupils with practical decision-making skills. Its focus on prevention rather than reaction means children develop the confidence and knowledge to handle risky situations in a safe space, before they arise elsewhere. The charity's mascot, Resili-Ant, helps engage younger learners and reinforce key messages around resilience.

In schools, the Life Skills Toolkit is typically implemented as part of the PSHE, RSE, or safeguarding curriculum. Teachers use the ready-made lesson plans and resources to deliver structured sessions across the academic year groups, tailored to the age and needs of their pupils. The materials can be integrated into whole-class teaching, small group work, or targeted intervention sessions. Schools benefit from ongoing updates and guidance from the charity to ensure content remains relevant to the emerging risks facing young people.

Recommended Usage

Designed for regular use throughout the school year as part of PSHE, RSE, and safeguarding curriculum delivery, with lessons typically taught weekly or across dedicated topic blocks..
