What is Starlight?
Starlight turns whole-lesson audio into a secure transcript and a structured, developmental coaching report within minutes. It is built to scale coaching across a school or trust without adding to the observation timetable, giving every teacher feedback that is specific, timely, actionable and regular, rooted in what actually happened in the lesson. Recording and upload are teacher-led, reports are private to the teacher by default, and the emphasis throughout is coaching and growth rather than grading or compliance.
For teachers, the workflow is simple. Record a full lesson, upload the audio, and receive an accurate transcript alongside a coaching report that evidences strengths from the transcript, sets one to three high-leverage next steps, and offers reflection prompts. There is no compulsory scoring. Feedback templates can be tailored to context, including Early Career Teacher development, and a rating-and-comment feature lets teachers shape the quality of the analysis they receive. Reports build on a teacher's previous reports over time, recognising progress and offering increasingly personalised guidance.
For leaders, the Constellation Dashboard presents anonymised, aggregated trends across departments, schools or the wider trust. Leaders can see where coaching themes are emerging and where to direct CPD investment, with no view of any individual teacher's reports. The result is intelligence to shape professional development strategy, not a window onto individual performance.
Governance sits at the centre, not the edge. Starlight runs on EU-based hosting, with teacher-led uploads, teacher control over deletion of audio and transcripts, and anonymisation before any aggregated use. Adopting schools are supported with a full set of documentation, including a Data Protection Impact Assessment, union guidance and a data processing agreement, so rollout is straightforward and defensible.
Most schools begin with the Launchpad, a four-week free trial for up to five users. It includes full platform access, StarDrives where required, and support Monday to Friday. It is a low-commitment way to experience Starlight before a wider rollout, lifting coaching capacity across staff while reducing the load on instructional coaches.

Starlight is a browser-based SaaS platform requiring no software installation. Audio recording is handled via a StarDrive USB device (provided separately) or any standard recording method. Audio upload requires an internet connection; low bandwidth is sufficient for browsing reports, high bandwidth recommended for uploading lesson audio files.
