What is Safety Spotters?
Safety Spotters is an online safety and AI literacy resource designed specifically for UK primary schools. It turns pupils into internet detectives who learn to question what AI tells them through warm mystery stories and games set in the fictional town of Kettlebridge. Children follow clues alongside Maya, the lead detective, and her team of Spotters to work out what is really going on in each case. The programme teaches the habits that keep children safe with AI and the internet, framing every big idea as a puzzle to solve rather than a rule to memorise.
The product combines Safety Spotters Mystery books with a browser-based detective game, giving teachers flexibility in how they deliver content. There is no live AI, no pupil data collection, and no accounts or sign-in required, making it safe by design. Each mystery concludes with plain, practical steps children can use the next time something online looks wrong: pause, check, and ask a trusted adult. The approach is positive and never scary, showing the online world as somewhere to be smart about rather than frightened of, building skills instead of anxiety.
Safety Spotters is designed around the aims of the UK computing and PSHE curriculum, so the mysteries earn their place in lesson time. The books work fully on paper in a reading corner or whole-class session, while the game runs in a standard browser on a classroom whiteboard, tablet or laptop. Nothing needs to be installed, making it ready for any classroom setup.
