What is EEmber?
EEmber is a psychosocial risk monitoring and governance service for schools, colleges, and Multi-Academy Trusts. It helps leadership teams detect rising staff pressure early, respond with proportionate controls, and document what they did — producing a retrievable evidence trail that demonstrates reasonable duty of care under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the HSE Management Standards, and Ofsted's updated inspection framework.
The service works through a 60-second anonymous staff check-in, completed daily via QR code or link. Staff rate their experience across six domains aligned to the HSE Management Standards: demands, control, support, relationships, role clarity, and change - the check in uses burnout metrics such as Emotional Exhausation (EE), Depersonalization (DP) and Personal Accomplishment (PA). These responses feed into a Burnout Risk Index (BRI), calculated from three validated dimensions: Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalisation, and Personal Accomplishment. Individual data is never visible to managers. Leadership only ever sees aggregated, anonymised team-level signals.
Each week, EEmber produces a Weekly Governance Pack for the school or Trust: a structured summary showing which teams are under pressure, what the primary drivers are, what proportionate controls leadership should apply, and a Decision Register logging what was decided, by whom, and what the evidence is. EEmber operates as a fully managed concierge service — the governance engine is run by EEmber on behalf of the institution, not by the school's own staff.
At the end of a six-week pilot, the institution receives a Closeout Pack: an inspection-ready document showing risk trends over time, controls applied, decisions made, and evidence coverage improvement across the six HSE domains. This gives Heads, Trust executives, and governing bodies a concrete, retrievable record of proactive staff wellbeing governance — not a policy statement, but documented proof of action.
