My Daughter attended preschool kids for about 3 years. She made so many good memories there. the teachers and Mrs.Erika are amazing. Miss Cindy always went above and beyond. I always felt that my daughter was safe there. I would always recommend this daycare/preschool to everyone Mrs.Erika has done an amazing job running her school.

I chose this school because I liked the environment and the way they engage with and give attention to the children. I feel secure being able to watch my daughter through the camera and follow her day at school. Moreover, the director, Ericka, is always prompt and very efficient in resolving any issues I may have. There is a very nice patio in the backyard with bright color, very lively and lovely. The service was great. We started with bit size crispy chickpea balls with potato and chutneys, delicious! The minced goat and liver with mashed hard boiled eggs was spicy but very addictive. Although it was only an appetizer, but good with rice or bread. For entrées, we got tiger prawns in coconut, braised goat, and chicken biryani. They were all delicious, especially the braised goat!

Gorgeous restaurant with a menu that both tastes elevated and authentic to the Bengali food I grew up eating. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and the dishes are fun without feeling gimmicky. You can’t go wrong with any of the options but the coconut chingri and bhapa doi are absolutely must orders! Coming back here any time I’m even remotely on the east coast, I don’t care if I have to Amtrak over this place is just that good.

Those are the first three statements that followed each dish I tried this evening.
Masalawala blends spices and heat to mouth watering perfection. The PRAWN CHINEY KEBAB
(fresh water tiger prawn, garlic, gawa ghee) was the best choice to start the evening and one of the best dishes I have eaten in awhile. The KEEMA PAO (goat mince, black cardamom, cloves, pao) was a great blend of heat and spice and went well with the prawn. Debatable as my fave dish, the KOSHA MANGSHO (braised goat, ginger, coriander, green cardamom) was a delicious blend of spice and heat while the goat fell off the bone. My only downside was the thickness of the sauce which made me fear I was over indulging in calories, but decided it was damn worth it!

To table, my server was able to give plenty of attention and conversation. I had a delicious white wine, though I don’t recall the name, it worked well with the spice level of the food.
Portion size is great-I mean-really great. Each dish was plenty to share with two and could even handle 3-4 if they don’t eat heavy like I do (lol). Price-I have read a few reviews which I disagree with. I thought the price was perfectly fine, excellent for a NY restaurant. And hey, where else can you enjoy Bengali food? Some people just need to complain-some people are cheap-and some are never happy. I assure you-your tastebuds and belly will be happy after an evening at Masalawala

This is my third time at Masalawala & Sons, and that says something! This restaurant is an excellent representation of Bengali cuisine.

Here are the highlights of the menu for me: Biyebarir Fish Fry, Kosha Mangsho (braised lamb), Malai Prawns Curry, Bhapa (steamed) doi (curd), Biriyani, Fuchka (Pani puri). These dishes are delightful, and highly recommended.

We loved the cocktails too, which brings in Indian flavours into the mix.

Food was great but i feel it was less authentic tasting from what i heard from people about this place. Portions were good sized, we took one appetizer and 2 entrees.
Must try out of all i will say is “coconut prawn”.

I attended York from Grade 7 to Grade 9. I'll try to be thorough as possible, but I may miss a lot due to the character limit.

I do want to note that if you already know what universities you want to go to, CHECK THE REQUIREMENTS FOR WHAT PROGRAM YOU WANT TO GO INTO. IB can tank your average by a lot if you aren’t prepared.

Academic Stuff

The teaching style
All of the teachers are passionate about what they do, and the lessons are taught in a straightforward way that allows for a lot of participation. If you have questions, there’s plenty of time for questions. They do assign a large amount of work, but that's just most IB schools.
I’d say the teaching is very high quality: exactly what you’d expect from a private school.
For all Middle/Senior School students, I recommend at least learning the basics of WeVideo, Adobe Express, Canva, and Google Docs. Specifically for the Senior School, ManageBac will be really important.

School Environment

Competitive people flock to this school like moths to a very expensive light. However, if you aren’t the competitive type, you can still survive. For everyone, their mental health will most likely *vwoop* downwards sooner or later. I remember the school sent out a mental health survey, and 70% of the Senior School students said they probably had depression haha

Inclusion
York's DEI is somewhat performative, but I've noticed they've been trying to make it less performative over the years.
YOU MAY FACE SOME FORM OF DISCRIMINATION DURING YOUR TIME HERE AT YORK IF YOU ARE A MINORITY. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TRANS OR NEURODIVERGENT.
The teachers and faculty generally try to be understanding, but the students may be less so. I'd attribute this to a lack of education about these topics, a lack of willingness to learn about it and/or ignorance.
There’s currently a GSA, but the last exec is transferring out and I’m not sure what’ll happen to the club.
Get good at writing persuasive essays, self advocacy will be vital during your time here. But at least the school's trying?

Tips

I highly recommend using all of the school's resources, ESPECIALLY THE SOCIAL WORKERS AND LEARNING STRATEGISTS. THEY WILL SAVE YOU. They're located in the Wellness Centre, on the first floor right next to the South Stairwell.

In Grade 9, you will get assigned a university counselor. They will help you with whatever courses you need to choose. If you already know what program you're going to be taking in university, and are wondering what you should do to get into the program, BOOK A MEETING WITH THE COUNSELOR.

Emails are love, emails are life. Get good at writing them.

Check YorkNet on occasion: your report cards are on there.

Check over the rubric when handing in major assignments. Some teachers will even give you a nice little checklist at the end of the planning documents (for said assignments) that will show what is expected for the assignment.

Sometimes, when major assignments are assigned, the teacher will set aside class time for the assignment to be finished. Take advantage of that. It will save you some amount of time.

Use Blackboard. All of the course material from the courses that you're taking will be on there. Homework assignments will also be in Blackboard announcements. Sometimes, the teachers even put exam preparation guides on there (use them!).

Take advantage of the extra help sessions that the teachers offer. In the Middle School, there are specific times that the teachers post on Blackboard. In the Senior School, you can go when the teacher says they’re available, which is usually almost always.

Participate! Participate in class, participate in clubs and councils, participate in athletics, participate in everything.

And remember to try to have fun. Some parts of this may be a bummer, but I had a pretty okay time here.

The York School is very well organised one. They exactly know how to give opportunities to their students and one in one personal consultation to bring out the best potential career choice. According to each student’s requirement the school provides everything possible according to their system.

We have 2 kids who started in 2014 who love going to The York School. They provide the perfect balance between academics, athletics, community awareness and involvement.  The teachers are supportive and enable the kids to succeed while challenging them to work independently. Just a fabulous school all-in-all. The teachers and faculty are tremendous and certainly prioritize each and every one of their students. Beautiful campus grounds, excellent athletics, and a very accomplished list of alumni all add to my five star rating of this Private School.

Great teachers, fantastic school.  My older son graduated last year and my 8 year old son is a second grader at Bullis. We are all very happy with the way they help our kids be better members of society.

A great school if you care to study, do your work and become successful. They offer everything a student needs to get good head start in life. Class of '78.

I was the class of '06. The courses provided at Bullis are rigorous enough to challenge any student and prepare you for the real world. The teachers when I was attending cared for each student not limited to the student athletes. Access to a network of people beyond graduation is priceless as well. I have kept many friends and associates which opened doors in the right places. I am now a successful event designer in Las Vegas, NV and I credit much of my skillset and never back down attitude to the challenges I overcame being a Bullis Prep Graduate. Opportunities are endless with Bullis including the trips abroad which I did not attend but wish I had. The world is much larger than a child realizes and once being accepted into Bullis as a 13 y/o boy I felt my first real accomplishment. Bullis sparked my curiosity of the world and opened my eyes to so much more than Gaithersburg, MD. p.s. There were great families there who at the time I attended took in Katrina families and survivors. It is a village where we can find active and vibrant colleagues life in USC.
There are many  cafes, international cuisine, stylish boutiques, shop and mart.
Compared to other area with too many homeless people on the street, this area seems to be safer and cleaner, and also with many tourists.
There are public parking lots, free for 2 hours.

A community built for the over 2700 students to live and learn wherein cafes, restaurants, shopping malls, fitness gyms and other services are all in one place.  Amazed with the architectural designs of their buildings and their traditional- style residence halls.

The environment here is very good. I often go to the two supermarkets TRADER JOE’S and Target to buy things. The money is worth it! But the opposite is that the female cleaner in charge of the restroom here is very unreasonable. She always refuses women to use the restroom there. When people want to solve the urgent problem before shopping (so as not to carry a lot of fruits, vegetables, milk and other food after shopping, and then go to the restroom, it will be very inconvenient... Many ladies explained the situation to her, but the cleaning lady still refused. No one can be as unreasonable as this cleaning lady! She likes to stay at the door of the women's restroom and chat with her male friends for a long time...

This is an absolutely beautiful campus! I have nothing but good things to say about this University. All the staff and student guides were amazing. JMU offers a wide variety of courses and has a 90% retention rate of returning students. Higher than any other college in Virginia

It was a very nice campus to visit. The campus is beautiful. Love the architectural design of each building with blue stone walls as a theme. Everything is within walking distance.

My vocational college is not far from JMU, and my family took a self tour of the campus a little bit since we were in Harrisonburg. After they picked me up from the vocational college, we self toured the campus and I loved it! I want to apply there in the future!! Highly recommended for a tour of the campus!!!! 💜💛💜💛 I have some friends who goes there, an acquaintance, and a childhood friend who graduated from there!! I also know a lot of people who goes there, so this is one of the universities that I know that most people go to!!!

Beautiful campus and friendly staff. My daughter and I had a great experience touring the campus.

Alabama School of Math And Science

Had 2 children attend. This is one of the best schools in the South Eastern United States. A PUBLIC competitive entry high school, focused on preparing students for success in life. Opened up SO many doors for my kids. If you have a high performing student, and are tired of them having to "hide it" at the regular school, you should check it out. Yes, boarding school is hard (especially for Mama) but it really is great for the students.

If your child think differently and has interest and excel in a wide variety of subject matter and you feel like all those interests need to be nurtured, ASMS is the place to send your kids. True, this is a boarding school, and I love it that the kids are taught how to do chores and other community service side by side pursuing excellence not only in science, math. arts, music, but also in terms of social life --leading to a successful confident members of the society.

I don’t goto the Alabama School of Math and Science, but my sister might and I’ve been to AIMS their summer camp. It was one of the best things I’ve ever been to. I’m doing AIMS next year to. (Also if you can next year, I definitely recommend doing the DragonHack!)

The rules of this school simply jives with my christian and family values.

The best education in the state of Alabama, hands down.

Houston Elementary School

I Loved the school 2 years ago, there seems to be more focus on the Hispanic children. Black children are second on the list. I don’t understand why every Hispanic class was allowed to walk across  the stage 1st.  All of The Black students/classes walk across the stage at the end of the ceremony.  One Hispanic class could have walked and a black class next .Graduation was Totally segregated. I was horrified.
Ms. Harris is the best ! That’s it.

This school used to be amazing. Seems like all of the black staff left though and now it is over ran by Mexicans and a Mexican principal. This wouldn’t be a problem but they treat the kids differently. They favor and talk to the Hispanic children but ignore or show lack of interest in the black children. In the car line they walk the kids to the cars and Ive noticed several times every time this hispanic woman walks my children she just leaves the door open and walks off. They dont do the mexican kids this way. I hate that the school has changed this dramatically because these mexicans only care about their own, even if you are raising good and well behaved black children. They wont be acknowledged here. And another review is correct, they do not have special classes and they have the cheapest to bare minimum of field trips. Another problem I have is teachers revoking activities such as gym and recess because some students cant behave so they punish all of the kids. You all have our kids 8 hours a day so please treat them right. If you don’t have patience please leave. I ride by all the time and the mexican kids are always outside (they have classes where there are ONLY hispanics present). Smh. Keeping restless kids cooped up all day will not better their behavior. Single out the ones who misbehave and treat the others better. And stop talking to the kids like they are crazy. Parents be more involved if possible because when I come volunteer I be seeing some teachers yell or talk to your children like they are crazy. Especially on field trips. I have a good child who barely communicates and Miss Hoggett yelled at my child because my child didnt know where to sit at the tables. I can only imagine what goes on when nobody is there but still my biggest issue is the clear racism, stereotyping and discrimination.

I used to go to school here and I was in back-and-forth grade and third grade and second grade kids pretty mean so I also like to their nice teachers and stuff like that

I really hope they do better as staff this year. It's sad that my son had so many issues with  that couldn't keep their hands to themselves and he get in trouble for hitting them back. I will not tolerate it this year at all. Failing to report emergency incidents regarding my child but quick enough to call me about him hitting someone back. Overall I like the school select teachers are okay with me.
