What is Browzly Phonic Bear?
Browzly Phonic Bear is a Voice-AI-powered phonics practice and formative assessment tool aligned with the Science of Reading evidence-based best practices. Our fun and friendly Browzly Bear supports Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP) instruction in Early Years, KS-1, and EAL/ELL classrooms, and works with any SSP chosen by the school. Beginning with a Phonics Baseline, Browzly ensures that every learner follows a personalized phonics learning journey loop that helps them work within their proximal zone of development at all times- thus combining AI-efficiency and scale with human oversight and intervention for maximal student impact and engagement.
With AI-driven real-time feedback, automated phonics baseline assessments and streaming, and advanced gap analysis-intervention summaries, Browzly Phonic Bear saves up to 207 hours*- the equivalent of more than 1 full-time teacher's time per academic year, while simultaneously strengthening parental confidence and generating positive advocacy that supports increased enrolment. The tool enables staff to focus more time on high-quality teaching, meaningful interactions with pupils, and delivery of consistently strong learning experiences.
The Browzly voice technology is trained on diverse children's voices, ensuring unbiased, equitable assessment across diverse accents. Additionally, Browzly Bear speaks in up to 40 different languages to reduce cognitive overload in learners who do not speak English as a first language, making English learning easier, more inclusive, and delightful for all. Browzly is a webapp that's well supported even in low-resource environments and provides a rich library of original, fully decodable texts linked to the chosen Phonics curriculum aside of sounds, words and non sense words.
Within schools, Browzly is used to run Baselines, streaming, continuous provision, and ongoing intervention guidance and practice. It is also used for setting reading at home, which reduces the burden both ways- on schools for Parent training and for families who are unable to support their Phonics learners.
* Based on a school of 150 students currently doing manual baselines and streaming, and having an adult listening to, assessing, and recording their reading for every child individually for at least 15 minutes per week, over the 39-week academic year.
