The software features course management, customizable open architecture, and scalable design that allows integration with student information systems and authentication protocols. It may be installed on local servers, hosted by Blackboard ASP Solutions, or provided as Software as a Service hosted on Amazon Web Services. Its main purposes are stated to include the addition of online elements to courses traditionally delivered face-to-face and development of completely online courses with few or no face-to-face meetings.

We've compiled some tips and basic steps for the novice Blackboard Learn instructors who want to learn how to create content in an online course. We want to help you with the high-level principles and processes involved when you build a course from the ground up.
No training required.
You can view messages in each of your courses. If allowed by your institution, you can also create and reply to messages. If allowed, you and your instructors can send messages to each other, multiple people, or an entire class for reminders, quick questions, and social interactions.
Messages activity remains inside the system. You can't view or send messages outside of your course.
